Stage 2 challenge meets expectations

The meaningful use Stage 2 proposed rule was released on February 23. Stage 2 strongly encourages providers to exchange information and requires electronic/online access to patient data, among other measures. PhysBizTech's sister publication Healthcare IT News asked its readers how challenging it would be for them to meet Stage 2.

The majority of respondents said Stage 2 is about as challenging as they expected.

Thirty-one percent of respondents said it will be harder than they expected to meet Stage 2 requirements. Perhaps the increased emphasis on data exchange will make it tough for some providers to be ready for Stage 2.

Only 14 percent said meeting Stage 2 will be easier than they expected. Many providers may be on the right track for Stage 2 based on their preparations for Stage 1, and level of adoption of EHRs and other technology. Or, they might have been expecting the worst.

The date range of this survey was March 5 2012, to March 23, 2012.
