Since January 2011 through the end of April 2013, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has paid out a total of $14.4 billion to eligible professionals and hospitals making meaningful use of certified EHR systems. That figure includes $8.9 billion in payments under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program and $5.5 billion in payments under the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program.
CMS has issued 345,559 total incentive payments across all 50 states, the District of Columbia and 5 U.S. Territories, with an average payment of $41,803.
Combined Medicare and Medicaid disbursements to the top 10 states totaled $7.4 billion, more than half of all payments made. Click through this slideshow to find out where the money went.
