Healthcare at the mall

A consumer health and wellness center aligned with a regional hospital will open within the confines of one of suburban Philadelphia’s largest shopping malls in September 2012. Mercy Health System, aligned with Mercy Suburban Hospital, will operate the 23,500-square-foot outpatient facility at the Plymouth Meeting Mall, according to Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT), which will lease the property.

The two-level facility will include primary care physician and specialist offices, physical therapy and non-invasive procedure suites, imaging facilities and a walk-in clinic. The space will be accessible from both inside and outside the mall.

“Shopping centers and healthcare are synergistic,” said Joseph Coradino, president of PREIT Services LLC and PREIT-RUBIN, Inc. “We are pleased to bring the first full-scale medical health and wellness center to an enclosed mall in the Northeast.”

Plymouth Meeting Mall is located in a highly populated suburban area northwest of the Philadelphia, at the confluence of three major highway arteries.
