In conjunction with the American College of Physicians (ACP) Internal Medicine 2013 meeting next week in San Francisco, ACP and Consumer Reports will be offering a free health fair for area residents.
The event, titled "Your Health: Fact, Not Fiction – A Patient Empowerment Expo," will be held on April 13 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PDT at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis hotel. The thrust of the expo will be teaching patients how to ask the right questions of their doctor -- and how to interpret the answers, according to ACP officials.
John Whyte, MD, the Discovery Channel's chief medical expert will welcome attendees. Then, during a two-hour breakout session, patients will interact with physicians to discuss the best and worst medical screenings; necessary and unnecessary medical tests; and tips on living a long and healthy life.
John Santa, MD, director of the Health Ratings Center at Consumer Reports, will deliver closing remarks.
ACP officials told PhysBizTech that approximately 1,700 people have signed up for the event.
