Eligible professionals (EPs) face associated deadlines on Feb. 28, the last day to complete attestation for participants in the 2012 Medicare EHR Incentive Program, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which administers the program.
CMS provided this link as a resource for EPs who must complete attestation for the 2012 program year by Feb. 28.
The agency also noted that several resources on this page of the EHR Incentive Programs website may help EPs properly meet meaningful use and attestation requirements.
Feb. 28 is also the deadline for EPs to submit any pending Medicare Part B claims forms from calendar year (CY) 2012. CMS explained that it allows 60 days after Dec. 31, 2012, for all pending claims to be processed. Medicare EHR incentive payments to EPs are based on 75 percent of the Part B allowed charges for covered professional services furnished by the EP during the entire payment year.
If the EP did not meet the $24,000 threshold in Part B allowed charges by the end of CY 2012, CMS expects to issue an incentive payment for the EP in March 2013 for 75 percent of the EP's Part B charges from 2012, according to the agency.
CMS emphasized the Medicaid EPs should check with their state Medicaid agency for their attestation deadline and more details about payment.
Also explained by CMS: If you are an EP who selected the electronic reporting pilot option for submission of clinical quality measures (CQMs) for the EHR Incentive Program (2012 reporting year), you must submit 12 months of CQM data using a PQRS-qualified EHR system or data-submission vendor. CMS said failure to submit CQMs electronically by 11:59 p.m. ET on Feb. 28 would result in your attestation being rejected for the 2012 program year.
However, if you are unable to continue or no longer wish to participate in the electronic reporting pilot, CMS stipulated the following steps:
- Return to you EHR Incentive Program registration.
- Change your selection to "no" on the e-Reporting screen for CQMs.
- Enter your CQM data into the portal as part of your meaningful use attestation.
