Have you ever wondered what would happen to your meaningful use status if you were to change EHR vendors? The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which administers the EHR Incentive Programs, has an answer for you.
CMS has posted an update to its EHR FAQ online resource to address the following query:
For the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs, how should an eligible professional, eligible hospital, or critical access hospital attest if the certified EHR vendor being used is switched to another certified EHR vendor in the middle of the program year?
The short answer is that the data collected for the selected menu objectives and quality measures should be combined from both of the EHR systems for attestation. Click here to read the answer in full detail.
CMS also posted an updated response to the following question about the effect of the federal budget sequestration on EHR Incentive Programs payments:
Will incentive payments earned in the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records Incentive programs be affected by sequestration?
The short answer is, yes, incentive payments made through the Medicare EHR Incentive Program are subject to the mandatory reductions in federal spending via sequestration. However, Medicaid EHR Incentive Program payments are exempt from sequestration cuts. Click here to read the answer in full detail.
